The Instructor Certification Workshop is a four day course designed to improve your personal paddling skills and your ability to convey paddling information, skills, basic river safety, and river running strategies to beginning paddlers so that you and your paddling community paddle more efficiently, effectively and safely! Additionally, the course is designed to develop your skills as a kayak instructor if you desire to teach paddling skills to your friends, through clubs or formal kayaking schools. Once finished with the course, you may obtain kayak instructor certification through the American Canoe Association in the areas of flatwater paddling, moving water paddling or whitewater paddling..... You must previously have completed the Instructor Development Workshop prior to the Instructor Certification Workshop in order to complete the last two days.

Additionally, you must be a current member of the American Canoe Association to take the course. For membership information go to www.americancanoe.org
The classes will be held here in Mt. Shasta with lake and river access close by. The times of each day's work is from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with some breaks in between. The mornings will consist of instructional strategies and the afternoon will consist of paddling skills assessment and coaching. Finally, in the evening we will meet to go over video review of that afternoons paddling. There is a great deal of information to learn in the course in addition to paddling skills, although paddling skills and proper demonstration of skills are essential. Once you take the course, if you don't attain the level you desire, say whitewater, you can send a video to me later once you have practiced the drills, take another certification course from me at no extra cost, or paddle with another instructor who can speak for your competency.
