| Half day to two-and-a-half days! A Taste of Kayaking: |
Learn how to roll and paddle a kayak in the relaxing flat water of Lake Siskiyou at the foot of Mount Shasta...then let's head to the river!
"A Taste of Kayaking" will give you the opportunity to learn paddle strokes that are so dynamic they will work in any kayak whitewater kayak, sea kayak, or lake boat. Learning how easy it is to get out of these things when you tip is really fun too, not to mention a great chance for a cool swim! However, you will only need to experience that a few times before you want to learn how to roll the boat over. You will be taught all the components of the kayak roll, which will again transfer to any kayak. Be careful, learning to kayak could change your whole outlook on life. Next thing you know, you may be dreaming about rivers!
We'll begin with a half day on the lake. You will learn how to get out of your boat under water. This is called a wet exit. Probably something you've never considered a wet exit. After wet exiting, you probably won't want to drain your boat again, therefore, you will be pleased to know there is a technique called a boat assist which will help alleviate wet exits. That's when someone helps you roll your boat over with their boat. Sounds crazy, but it works great! Also, you will experience paddling a whitewater kayak with American Canoe Association techniques and others that will start you in the right direction with fun and effective paddling. You will also be exposed to the kayak roll and several strategies to perform this exciting maneuver that may get you lots of attention at your local lake when you go out to practice.
On the river days, "A Taste of Whitewater" will teach you how to move the boat in current and execute river maneuvers such as ferries, eddy turns and peel-outs as well as a variety of new paddle strokes. This is when it gets really cool, when you feel the power of the river under your boat! You will have time to work more on the roll, too! This will leave you with a smile on your face and excited to return for more!
Contact us to schedule a half day clinic for basic kayaking skills, or one and a half days for instruction on both flat water and moving river current, or best of all two and a half days of river excitement, which will leave you with beginning kayak skills, creating an enthusiam to come back for more! Private (individual) or semi-private (2 students) classes available as schedule allows.... Email for more information.
"Your teaching technique is very positive. You quickly adapted to my learning style and skill level. By taking my past experience with other schools and river experience, you tailored your lessons to meet my needs." I would recommend your school to anyone who wants to learn kayaking. Your patience, skill and flexibility are what separates you from the other schools." Keith Winter, small business owner |

"I had a wonderful experience with Michael and the Osprey school. He was very
patient and understanding teaching a first-timer. It was great to be in a
class with all basic skill levels to see the progression of others trying to
learn. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful and the time on the river
really solidified my willingness to attempt it again and get better! I'd do
it again in a heartbeat and recommend the experience to anyone who has any
inclination to try kayaking."
